Radio Scouting within the district includes the use of radio, line and optical means of communication as well as some navigation based activities.
Radio communication can involve the use of license exempt walkie-talkies (446 MHz), amateur radio and possibly Citizens Band (CB). Amateur radio activities tend to revolve around Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) over the third weekend in October with the equipment and operators being kindly provided by members of the Taunton & District Amateur Radio Club.
Blackdown District was formed in 2014 by the amalgamation of the Taunton and South Somerset Districts and is located in the south west of the United Kingdom.
These activities are supported by Norman Bambridge, who is a member of the Active Support Unit (ASU) at Huish Woods Scout Camp Site, near Taunton. Also, as a secondary role, a District Skills Instructor (Radio), holding the amateur radio callsign of G8PLL.
